Custom Border Patches

A patch border protects and frames the design while defining its finished outline. Use this guide to choose an edge for custom border patches and understand how it affects the space available for artwork.

Merrow borders for a rounded stitched edge

Merrow border patches have a raised stitched perimeter that works well with suitable regular shapes. The edge adds visual weight, so allow for it when measuring a small badge. Tight internal corners or intricate contours may call for a different finishing method.

Cut edges for detailed silhouettes

Hot-cut and laser-cut finishes can follow shapes that are less suited to a thick wrapped edge, depending on the material. Bordered embroidered patches still need enough separation between the cut line and important detail. Ask which edge process suits the actual construction.

Include the border in the proof

Specify the outside size, border color and the intended artwork area. A change in border width can affect lettering and overall proportions. For a reorder, provide the previous edge reference rather than only the logo file.

Questions about custom border patches

Does every patch need a visible stitched border?

No. Edge treatment depends on the material and shape. A cut edge or molded perimeter may be more appropriate.

Can the border match the garment?

Provide a color reference and confirm the available material color. Screen colors alone can be misleading.
