Custom Applique Patches

Custom applique patches combine fabric shapes with stitching to create a layered design. They are well suited to bold lettering and larger graphics where the fabric itself contributes color and texture.

Use fabric to build the design

Custom fabric applique can fill broad areas without reproducing every surface in dense embroidery. Identify which parts are fabric and which are stitched detail. Leave enough width around narrow shapes for a secure edge, and avoid overlaps that create unnecessary bulk.

Choose the edge and garment placement

The stitching around each layer is both a visual feature and part of the construction. For applique clothing patches, show the intended placement so thick seams, stretch and garment weight can be considered. A large chest design may need different support from a small sleeve emblem.

Review the layers before production

Confirm fabric colors, layer order, outline and attachment in the proof. Custom applique designs can look quite different when a shiny, textured or soft base replaces a flat digital color. Request a material reference when the fabric finish is important to a collection.

Questions about custom applique patches

How is applique different from embroidery?

Applique uses pieces of fabric to form areas of the design, often secured and detailed with stitching. Embroidery builds the design primarily with thread.

Can applique include embroidered details?

Yes. Embroidered applique patches can combine fabric areas with smaller stitched elements, subject to the design and available space.
